Electroless Nickel Plating
Lactic acid has a unique complexation constant for nickel ions, over 97% of nickel ions in the lactic acid-nickel ion system are in the complex ion state, so lactic acid is one of the commonly used complexing agents for chemical nickel plating; lactic acid is stable in the plating solution and can effectively control the deposition rate to ensure uniform and fine plating and plating solution stability; lactic acid can effectively inhibit nickel phosphite precipitation in the process of chemical nickel plating; lactic acid can form binary or multiple complexing agents with sodium citrate, malic acid, succinic acid and other complexing agents to meet the demand for complexing agents in the chemical nickel plating industry; lactic acid can be used as an acid-base buffer and stabilizer in the plating bath.
Paints and Coatings Industry
Lactic acid is used as a pH regulator in bonding systems for various water-based coatings, such as electrodeposition coatings.
Methyl lactate and butyl lactate are synthetic agents for paints, coatings and resins. Butyl lactate is widely used as a brightening agent for spraying and baking paints in the automotive and household appliance industries.
Biodegradable Materials
L-lactic acid can also be used to produce biodegradable plastics. Due to the high melting point of methyl lactate and ethyl lactate, their slow evaporation rate and their ability to mix evenly with water and a variety of polar solvents, they can fully dissolve a variety of synthetic polymers such as cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetobutyrate, and are high boiling point environmentally friendly solvents.
Feed industry
Lactic acid, as a natural metabolite in animals, does not leave harmful substances in the body of livestock when used as an acidity agent. Its functions are as follows.
(1)Reduce the pH value of the diet, make the pH value in the stomach decrease, increases the activity of pepsin.
(2)Improves the microbiological system of the gastrointestinal tract.

In the textile industry, fibers treated with lactic acid are easy to be colored, luster increased and soft to the touch.
In the solvent industry, methyl lactate and ethyl lactate are solvents with high solubility points, slow evaporation rates and the ability to mix evenly with water and a variety of polar solvents, which can fully dissolve a variety of synthetic polymers such as cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate and cellulose acetobutyrate.
